Flag History
As the Evergreen State, it is appropriate that Washington is the only state to use a green background for its flag. It is also the only state with a picture of a president on it - George Washington. In the center is the state seal, designed in 1889 by Charles Talcott. When the Daughters of the American Revolution wanted a flag to send to American soldiers fighting in Europe in 1916, this was the one finally adopted in 1923.
