Canadian Flag
Facts:
Canada became a nation in 1867 when four colonies united together.
Later six other provinces and two territories joined the confederation.
For many years Canada
did not have a national flag and used the British Red Ensign with the
Canadian shield in the fly. In the early 1960's many Canadians
called for a flag to be designed and on February 15, 1965 the national
flag of Canada was adopted. The design features red bars on each side
that represents the sacrifice made by Canadians during the first
World War and the the white in the center represents the snowy north of
Canada. In the center of the white is a large red stylized maple leaf
that has been Canada's national emblem for over 150 years.
Canada also has many
providences, each has it's own distinctive flag to represent it.
